Winter and the element of Air.
In the Northern Hemisphere, Winter is the time when the earth rests, when the nights are long and cold. It is a time of embracing the darkness, allowing it to be a catalyst for personal growth and transformation. It is the time for resting and dreaming into the new year, for reflection and contemplation. New possibilities that lie beneath the surface can begin to emerge. This was the time when our harvest had to sustain us, and was a natural time to push us beyond our comfort zones to stretch and grow. And then at the times that we most needed, there were many community celebrations and ceremonies to uplift the spirit and share stories and songs with each other. Like this season where the light slowly builds and life awakens gradually from the roots, it is a good time to allow the energies of new life and inspiration build slowly within us so that by spring we will be bursting with new energy and ideas. Winter is a perfect time to honor the endings and new beginnings in your life, and is when the beginning of the new calendar year falls, offering the chance to begin again.
In the medicine wheel of Life, this is the place of the elders, those with white hair. It is a time to access deeply rooted wisdom, of slower movements and contemplation. In the Mayan Medicine Wheel it is associated with the element of air. This time of year the strong winds blow in Guatemala. This is a season of purification.

Ceremonial and ritual guidance for this Winter 2022/23 season, a time of going within at the time of greatest dark and welcoming the light as the days get lighter. This is the time for reflection and visioning for the year ahead. By creating sacred space we give thanks for our lives, count our blessings and sweep our paths to make space for good medicine in our lives. We show our gratitude for all that sustains us, and prepare to be ready to plant in the spring. Be sure to take these offerings with you on your path, make your ceremonies where you are and work with the elemental medicine of Air within and without to embrace what is unfolding on your path.
